My heart it is delicious; setting the course for cross-cultural health care; the story of the Center for International Health.
Minnesota-based Young is the author of four previous books. Having lived for seven years in Guatemala and Colombia, she understands something of the challenges that occur when doctors and patients come from different cultural backgrounds. She offers an account of the international health work begun by a small medical team sent by the American Refugee Committee of Minneapolis to aid refugees on the Thai-Cambodian border in 1979. In 1980, their work was furthered with the creation of the Center for International Health at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, to serve the health needs of Minnesota's newest immigrants from Southeast Asia, and later Russia, Somalia, and other countries in turmoil. The Center is now recognized as a world leader in the practice of culturally competent health care for many immigrant groups. Illustrated with b&w and color photographs.
