This book/CD-ROM package contains information for winding machinery operators, process engineers, and marketing managers. The first section, on machines, requires no familiarity with winding, merely a modicum of mechanical aptitude. The second section, on mechanics, is rigorous, and requires some college-level engineering and science background. The third section, on measurement of roll quality, is accessible to all readers in the industry. Each section reviews its subject through the lenses of both applications and history. The companion CD-ROM contains winding models, so that users can observe how material properties, winder type, and environmental effects such as air entrainment and temperature changes affect the stresses in a wound roll. Appendices provide a reference on units and conversions and selected calculations, plus a glossary. Good teaches mechanical engineering at Oklahoma State University.
