Highlights of astronomy; v.13; as presented at the 25th General Assembly of the IAU, 2003.
Papers from joint discussions at a July 2003 meeting are organized in sections on non-electromagnetic windows for astrophysics, mercury, magnetic fields and helicity in the sun and heliosphere, astrophysical impact of abundances in globular clusters, and white dwarfs. Other subjects are extragalactic globular clusters, evolution in galaxy clusters, dynamics and evolution of dense stellar systems, extragalactic binaries, formation of cometary material, and atomic data for X-ray astronomy. There is no subject index. (Annotation ©2006 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
New horizons in astronomy; proceedings.
The second seating of the biennial conference devoted entirely to the work and ideas of young astronomers drew scholars from Texas and surrounding states and even from as far as Maryland to present reviews of the literature and report on their own research. Among the 34 topics are probing chemistry during star and planet formation, the N-body approach to disk galaxy evolution, white dwarfs and stellar evolution, photometry of near-Earth asteroids at McDonald Observatory, and modeling star formation with dust. Only authors are indexed. (Annotation ©2006 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
