SciTech Book News

As a resource for librarians and other buyers of high-level books, SciTech Book News, published quarterly, cites about 2000 new books from several hundred publishers in each issue, offering concise reviews and annotations and thorough bibliographic information. The bibliography itself is arranged by subject, but this page and the other publisher pages present the material arranged by publisher.

Entries include title, author, series (in parentheses), publisher, copyright date, number of pages, price (at the time of listing), Library of Congress subject classification code, and ISBN. For scholarly and reference books, we note if they lack a subject index or a bibliography. Size is mentioned when the book exceeds 8.5x11 inches.

Other subjects are extragalactic globular clusters, evolution in galaxy clusters, dynamics and evolution of dense stellar systems, extragalactic binaries, formation of cometary material, and atomic data for X-ray astronomy. The second seating of the biennial conference devoted entirely to the work and ideas of young astronomers drew scholars from Texas and surrounding states and even from as far as Maryland to present reviews of the literature and report on their own research. Among the 34 topics are probing chemistry during star and planet formation, the N-body approach to disk galaxy evolution, white dwarfs and stellar evolution, photometry of near-Earth asteroids at McDonald Observatory, and modeling star formation with dust.
