The architecture of William Lawrence Bottomley.
The exteriors and interiors of the New York architect (who has been mainly known for his many suburban houses in Richmond, Virginia) are depicted in numerous b&w (and a few color) plates and discussed in a detailed text by Frazer, an architectural historian based in Richmond. The author discusses in-depth 34 projects and gives a catalog of commissions in the back of the book. Each of the projects includes a floor plan, and while most are large country houses, Frazer also includes a number of urban residences (including Bottomley's celebrated remodel of a cramped 80-year-old house in Manhattan called "One-Man House"), the Van Riper Residence in Palm Beach, FL (a masterpiece in the Mediterranean style), and River House, a 25-story apartment house in New York City. The volume is oversize: 9.5x12.25 inches. (Annotation ©2008 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
