The Civil War in New Mexico.
Stanley (born Louis Crocchiola, 1908-1996) published an astounding number of books and booklets on the history of New Mexico. Unfortunately, according to historian Simmons who wrote the new foreword for this edition, Stanley was "almost universally condemned" for the many errors in his writing. Packed with details, this book offers the perspective of the American Civil War from the New Mexico volunteers who fought in it. Fortunately for Stanley, attitudes toward his writing seem to have softened over time. (Annotation ©2011 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
