Literary praxis.
Born out of a conversation between the Dutch and Australian educators and authors Van de Ven and Doecke, these recorded conversations center on a comparison of the pedagogies of classroom English teachers in Australia and Holland. The teachers elaborated on their respective teaching methods and shared them with each other for feedback as a means of analyzing and assessing their practices. The purpose is not to give examples of exceptional teaching methods, but rather to think about what it means to teach literature. Teachers today are hampered by standards-based requirements and limited in their ability to assess their own teaching methodologies. This book explores, via conversation on various practices, the importance of teachers making those assessments. (Annotation ©2011 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)

Spirituality, education & society; an integrated approach.
The absence of spirituality in public education is to ignore our humanness, say the authors. Religion is a taboo subject administrators loathe to deal with. This collection of essays calls on educators to incorporate spirituality within the context of education, valuing the uniqueness of all individuals, regardless of beliefs and backgrounds. By separating spirituality from religion, students will be allowed the space in which to define their own spirituality. The essays cover a wide range of issues and provide a strong case for bringing spirituality into the classroom. (Annotation ©2011 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
