Social philosophy today; poverty, justice, and markets; v.27
This volume, edited by Snow (philosophy, Marquette U.) collects nine papers from the July 2010 annual conference of the North American Society for Social Philosophy, together with other NASSP materials. The selected papers include discussions of John Stuart Mill and health care reform, a Kantian perspective of domestic violence as a violation of autonomy and agency, sexual abuse and Heidegger's conceptualization of freedom, and commentary on Amartya Sen's The Idea of Justice (with a reply by Sen). Other materials include the proceedings of an "authors meet critics" session discussing Jan Narveson's and James P. Sterba's Are Liberty and Equality Compatible?, the 2010 presidential address of outgoing NASSP president Alistair M. Macleod, and a keynote from the 2009 conference on the recent economic crisis as read in the light of Jürgen Habermas's Legitimation Crisis. (Annotation ©2011 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
