Benefits of investing in water and sanitation; an OECD perspective.

OECD, ©2011    144 p.    $39.00    HD1691
978-92-64-10054-1

This report synthesizes current information that will help policymakers in Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and non-OECD countries identify and prioritize needed investments in water supply and sanitation services (WSS). Although the report is targeted at specialists, it has been written to be accessible to non-specialists as well, using as little technical language and jargon as possible. The book describes the value chain of WSS, outlines types of investments, and describes health and other benefits from improving access to services. Separate chapters are devoted to the benefits of investing in wastewater treatment and to sustainable management of the water supply. Appendices offer insight on the methodological issues encountered in estimating, measuring, and valuing the benefits of WSS investments. There is no subject index. (Annotation ©2011 Book News Inc. Handbook on deriving capital measures of intellectual property products.

OECD, ©2010    167 p.    $47.00    HD53
978-92-64-07290-9

Part of the 2008 System of National Accounts (SNA) was the agreement that research and development (R&D) expenditures be recognized as capital formation. In order to establish international comparability, OECD and Eurostat task forces have been working on practical recommendations for the measurement of R&D and other intellectual property products (IPP). This handbook is a compilation of the committee's work, along with revisions of reports prepared from 2001 to 2003, such as a paper on mineral exploration produced by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. No index is provided. (Annotation ©2011 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)

Value for money in government; the Netherlands 2010.

(Value for Money in Government)
OECD, ©2011    107 p.    $35.00    JN5801
978-92-64-09608-0

Largely arising out of a visit to The Hague in January 2010, along with data analysis from the OECD's Public Finance and Employment Database (PFED), this volume summarizes how the Netherlands can provide better services at lower costs to taxpayers. Following a brief summary of previous reforms, the bulk of this book consists of ten recommendations for reform for the Dutch central government. The executive summary quickly provides the gist of the report, offering descriptions of recommendations such as vertical and horizontal integration and stricter standards of operational management. No index is present. (Annotation ©2011 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
