Engineering education; an Australian perspective.
In over 500 pages some 50 Australian academics dissect problems and issues related to equipping engineering students with the skillset they need to succeed academically and, later, professionally. The themes around which the contributions are grouped are: Professional practice and trans-disciplinary education; Problem based learning; Equity and diversity; The first-year experience; Technology and on-line education; Assessment; Student engagement; Curriculum and program development. While the book naturally has an Australian emphasis, the problems and challenges being faced by Australian engineering educators are not in principle different from those being faced by their Americans counterparts; accordingly, this book is very relevant to those engaged in engineering education in America. Fifty years of progress for shell and spatial structures; in celebration of the 50th anniversary jubilee of the IASS (1959-2009).
This book documents developments in shell and spatial structures over the last 50 years. The first part covers the context in which the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures was founded 50 years ago; and goes on to provide a decade-by-decade account of developments in the field. The remainder of the book analyses developments by topic — shell structures; framed and lattice structures; movable, retractable and deployable structures; special spatial structures, such as footbridges and masts; and finally it examines concepts common to all the topics — structural morphology, form finding, and morphogenesis.
