Crowfield (afHj-31); a unique Paleoindian fluted point site from southwestern Ontario.
Deller and Ellis (anthropology, U. of Western Ontario) describe and analyze in detail the Paleoindian artifacts and information recovered from Crowfield. The site is best known for a single feature containing over 180 purposely burned and heat-fractured stone artifacts, something not reported from any other Early Paleoindian site. Focusing on that feature, they look at tools blanks and unifaces; bifaces and tools on granitic rocks; size, shape, and internal spatial distributions; meaning and significance; and explaining the contents. Other topics include spatial distributions and artifact refit patterns of the site as a whole, and other Paleoindian evidence. There is no index. (Annotation ©2011 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
