Is there life abroad after Afghanistan?; the future of Canadian expeditionary operations.
With the bulk of Canadian troops scheduled to withdraw from Afghanistan at the end of 2011, the annual Strategic Defence Forum of 2010, held at the Centre for Foreign Policy Studies at Dalhousie U., Canada, addresses the future of Canadian expeditionary forces in light of domestic and international lessons drawn from the Afghanistan experience. Seven papers from the conference are presented here, examining such topics as Canadian public opinion about the Afghanistan mission, the way that Canadian government "framed" the mission for the public, the impact of the decision to join the Afghanistan mission on relations with the United States, future Canadian military approaches to "non-traditional" threats, future naval strategy, and overall defense policy planning.
