Drawing on "Transforming Culture in the Digital Age" conference proceedings, Lyotard and other postmodern theorists, and Marx, Wilkie (cultural and digital studies, U. of Wisconsin-La Crosse) contributes a labor theory of digital culture to the debate over the meaning of the "digital condition." He argues that "the property question," the way that the capitalist division of ownership and labor determines all aspects of culture, is driving global network economics, analyses of the digital text, and the identity of the "digital me"(e.g., cyborgs as postclass fantasy).
