Council on Foreign Relations
U.S. strategy for Pakistan and Afghanistan; independent task force report.
The Independent Task Forces are issue-oriented sub-projects of the Council for Foreign Relations, an American nonprofit think-tank. This report, the 65th, offers an overview of the context behind the rationale for US military presence in Afghanistan and our relations with Pakistan in light of the War on Terror. They claim Islamic terrorists pose a direct threat to the United States and offer several policy suggestions regarding how to stabilize Afghanistan and shift our objectives there, while helping keep Pakistan from falling into the clutches of terrorists. A section of dissenting views is included. The Task Force is comprised of academics working in foreign relations, and different advisors from the corporate and nonprofit world.
