International Conference on Why Galaxies Care About AGB Star II... (2010: Vienna, Austria) Ed. by F. Kerschbaum et al. (Astronomical Society of the Pacific conference series; v.445)

The first conference, held in 2006, was subtitled "Their Importance as Actors and Probes," and the subtitle of the second is meant to reflect how new instruments will soon allow both a closer look at individual rather nearby stars, and investigate the bright asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars in external systems. Some 150 papers — including both talks and posters — cover complex atmospheres, environment, common inhabitants, out there, and perspectives. Among the topics are the evolution and nucleo-synthesis of extremely metal-poor AGB stars, the second release of the Torún Catalogue of galactic post-AGB stars, double chemistry in galactic bulge planetary nebulae, and the role of AGB stars in the global gas and dust budget of the Large Magellanic cloud. Only names are indexed. (Annotation ©2011 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
