Beyond privatopia; rethinking residential private government.
Exploring developments in community associations since his 1994 publication of Privatopia, McKenzie (political science, U. of Illinois) focuses on their relations with local government. Some municipalities have shifted from caution to promoting common interest housing developments (CIDs), and state legislatures are increasing regulation. Overall, he says, there is a convergence of private and public local governments which differs from the typical libertarian perspective. This volume presents both a theoretical perspective and a practical analysis. (Annotation ©2011 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
