The sixth edition of this history of the Sudan covers the momentous events since its last publication in 2000, including Darfur crisis, the Sudan's role in the international war on terrorism and the recent secession of the southern part of the region into the new nation of South Sudan. The bulk of the text focuses on the earlier periods of Sudanese history including the nineteenth century Turco-Egyptian period and the Anglo-Egyptian era, the development of Sudanese nationalism in the first half of the twentieth century and the independence era. The work includes several maps and a selected bibliography of further readings on the subject.
