Aspen Art Museum
One hour ahead; the avant-garde in Aspen, 1945-2004.
Despite its remote location, Aspen has hosted some of America's leading artists from an early period through the present. This history is recounted in this volume, with early events that include the Photographic Conference of 1951 (Ansel Adams, Berenice Abbot, Minor White, and Dorothea Lange were there), the artists-in-residence program of the 1960s and 1970s (Claes Oldenburg, Roy Lichtenstein, and Robert Morris among them), the founding of the Aspen Art Museum in 1979, and the artists and works displayed at the Museum. The volume is oversized (10x11.25 inches) and well illustrated with b&w and color plates. (Annotation ©2006 Book News Inc. Portland, OR)
